LoveIT

LoveIT video compiled by the Community Reporters

We are volunteer community reporters and we compiled a video report about the LoveIT project. It was held at the High Street Centre in Rawmarsh 16-20th August. LoveIT is a computer training project aimed at teaching the basics of computers, internet and emailing to the over 50s.

As community reporters we interviewed both participants and volunteers who attended the event. It was a very good turn out and everyone enjoyed it.

Nail Painting Event at Eastwood Community Hall 20th July 2010

Ladies who attended our free nail painting event at Eastwood Community Hall on 20th July enjoyed a pampering session with our young volunteers who did an excellent job of painting their nails and making them feel special.  Age Concern Rotherham staff were also on hand to tell people about our services and to chat to all who took part in the event.  Look out for similar events in the future.

Love IT June 2010

The latest LoveIT course held 1st-4th June at the Unity Centre IT suite was a great success thanks to the hard work of all our volunteers.

We had 40 people on courses over the 4 days and 14 volunteers.

These are some of the comments logged on the evaluation sheets. "A valuable service" "really enjoyed the course. All the staff very helpful. Venue easy to get to" "gave me confidence to try new things" "overall I found it very informative and the volunteers very patient"

The age range of attendees was between 50 and 85.

Following on from comments received from people who have attended the LoveIT courses, Age Concern Rotherham is looking to provide a few specialist sessions in the August event. The August LoveIT event will be held 16th-20th August at the High Street Centre, Rawmarsh. For details of the event and to make a booking contact Gwen on 01709 386831.

The extra sessions we are hoping to include are:

Podcasts and downloading music from the internet.

Shopping safely online.

Social networking.

If you would like to volunteer for this event please also contact Gwen on 01709 386831 - we look forward to working with new and existing volunteers to continue the success of this event at Age Concern Rotherham.

shopping safely online

Are you worried about shopping safely online?  There are many benefits of shopping online, such as not having to get to the shops; organising a home delivery and being eligible to discounts only available to online customers.  There are some websites that are designed to protect consumers and give good advice about shopping safely over the internet.

http://www.onlineshoppingright.co.uk/ and http://www.shopsafe.co.uk/  give good advice and have a list of online shops that they score according to how secure they think the site is.
